With the goal of creating, in its own words, “the best automobile in the world”, Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new S-Class flagship.
Majoring on advanced technologies, the S-Class is the first car to be built without a single lightbulb – 500 LEDs are used to illuminate the road, interior and boot. Other highlights include a forward-facing camera that scans for bumps in the road and adjusts the suspension accordingly, and the next generation of the company’s PRE-SAFE occupant protection system.
Inside, passengers will experience upgraded seats that massage and heat and cool occupants more efficiently, thanks, in part to a new fan system. There will also be an ‘active perfuming system’, which can be adjusted manually to alter the intensity of the cabin aroma.
UK prices for the new S-Class, which goes on sale here towards the end of 2013, have not yet been confirmed, but the range is expected to start at around £68,000.
